…aside from the beach! That’s right, there is much more to this Mexican marvel than its tropical sands, and we’ve asked the experts at Falcon Holidays to suggest five more great things to do in Cancun, other than sunbathing.
Complimenting Cancun isn’t the most difficult of tasks. As soon as you dip your toes into its deep, turquoise pools you’ll see exactly why. Venture away from the beach for a day or two and discover what else Cancun holidays have to offer — it’s certainly got a lot!
All things tropical
Relax and explore the National Park, Isla Contoy, where you’ll be surrounded by the whistling tunes of over 170 different species of birds. Its leafy landscapes are bursting with colour, whether it’s the red flamingos or the blooming flowers, it’s really quite stunning. Find the perfect spot and you’ll be able to do a spot of whale shark watching too. It’s an area jam packed with life and the perfect place to spend a relaxing day away from the beach.
Adventure time
Splash in different waters for the day at All Ritmo waterpark. Let the kids zoom down the slides to their heart’s content, or swing like monkeys in the jungle gym, while you take some time to lie back on a lounger, cocktail in hand, and embrace the rays. Or venture higher into the tropical trees, with a zip line adventure. You’ll feel the Mexican wind in your hair as you rush down some of the longest zip-lines in Latin America. Are you up for the challenge?
Time out
Following all this excitement, you might be ready to unwind a little. Cancun has more than thirty spas to choose from where you can enter a state of pure bliss. That’s what holidays are about after all! Maybe that’s not your scene? Then how about some therapy of a different kind — retail therapy! Visit the traditional handicrafts market, or opt for the Luxury Avenue packed with designer stores where you can spend a pretty penny.
Uncover historic tales
Above land and below, Cancun has many stories to tell. Play Mayan Gods and Goddesses by its Mayan Temple, or climb the steps of beautiful San Miguelito — you’ll feel like you’ve fallen right out of the Mexican history books. How about staying closer to those silky sands with a dive into the Gulf where you’ll come across the one-of-a-kind aquatic museum, Museo Subacuático de Arte. Its 470 underwater statues are sure to impress!
Meet the locals
Get up close and personal with locals of all different sorts at Crococun Zoo. Take a guided tour of the zoo where you’ll be able to interact with all sorts of creatures, from crocs to spider monkeys. Or you could opt to venture further out, and take a Hummer tour through the jungle, where once again you’ll be surrounded by lively animals aplenty.
Your Cancun holiday experience will be all the better for venturing away from the beach for a day or two, and there are so many places to choose from. Happy memory making!
