Over the course of a century, the majestic Niagara Falls have attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors. Even if you typically have very little time available for travelling, it is well worth adding a visit to this natural wonder to your ‘must do’ list. As you will see, provided you are organised, a weekend offers you plenty of time to experience this beautiful and exciting destination.
Day 1 – Book in and see the falls up close
If you stay in the Niagara Falls Marriott, you can bag yourself a room that looks out over the actual waterfalls. Once you have booked into your hotel, take the Hornblower Niagara Cruise. During this tour, you will get a quick history lesson about the area and be taken right up to the edge of the waterfalls. This boat tour is a great way to appreciate the sheer power of this magnificent natural phenomenon. For the more adventurous, a jet boat tour along the edge of the falls is also fun.
In the afternoon, take the Journey Behind the Falls tour, which is available year round. This is a unique way to experience the Falls.
If you prefer you can opt to take a helicopter ride over the falls, this really is a fantastic way to get a view of the waters from above. At the time of writing this article, all of the firms that offer this service require you to book in advance.
What you do in the evening is very much up to you. There is plenty of choice. A lot of visitors really enjoy spending time in the Fallsview Casino Resort. When it comes to restaurants, you really are spoilt for choice. There are all kinds serving food from around the world.
Day 2 – Enjoy the rest of the area
The area around the Fall is worth exploring. The historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake has plenty of old-fashioned charm. There are numerous ways to experience this beautiful place.
One of the most popular is a bike tour. There are several places to hire bicycles, including tandems and mountain bikes. If you want, you can join one of the many cycling tours.
For history buffs, a visit to the Brock´s Monument Historic Site is a must. There is also time to experience the Konzelmann estate winery. It is a great way to learn about the winemaking process. As well as traditional wines the Konzelmann estate makes lovely fruit wines, which are well worth tasting.
A tour of the lavender fields is also interesting. After you have learned how the products are made you can buy some in the shop. There are plenty of items that are perfect for taking home as presents.
